10 of the Best Coffee Shops in Central Texas

Ten independent shops, from Dripping Springs to Cibolo, for International Coffee Day.

Best coffee shops in Central Texas: barista pouring a Texas-shaped latte art design at a cafe counter

International Coffee Day is October 1, and if you are deciding where to live in Central Texas, the morning coffee stop is a better test of a town than most brochures. It tells you how people gather, how fast the place moves, and whether anyone knows your order by the second visit.

Central Texas is not one market. The Hill Country runs slow and scenic, the I-35 corridor moves fast and keeps growing, and the San Antonio side is where a lot of families land. So we skipped the chains and picked ten independent shops, one in each of ten communities, with what we could confirm about each.

Use the quick jumps above to go straight to a town, or scroll for the full list. Menus and hours change, so check before you go.

The Best Coffee Shops in Central Texas, Town by Town

1. Mazama Coffee Co, Dripping Springs

Hill Country

4.8 ★ on Google  ·  918 reviews

Historic Mercer Street roastery with a shaded courtyard.

Mercer Street is the old-school heart of Dripping Springs, and Mazama has been part of it since November 2012, when Vicky and Bruce Lewis turned a former iron works building into a coffeehouse and named it after a small Washington town where the family used to vacation.

Beans are roasted in-house in small batches, the syrups are made in-house, and the baking happens on site. Lori Green, who started as a part-time barista shortly after the doors opened, bought the shop in September 2022. Take your cup to the shaded courtyard, where well-behaved dogs are welcome. Beer is on the menu too.

Address: 301 Mercer St, Dripping Springs, TX 78620
Order or try: Cinnamon brown sugar syrup, a house staple

2. Caliche Coffee Bar & Ranch Road Roasters, Fredericksburg

Hill Country

4.6 ★ on Google  ·  763 reviews

Small-batch roastery on West Main.

Caliche sits under the roof of what used to be a beer shack on West Main Street. The coffee story goes back to 2011, when Daniel Raymer roasted his first batches on the stake bed of an old 1946 Ford truck and named his roasts for the back roads around town.

Today the beans are roasted in small batches, fair trade and fair wage, and you can buy a bag to take home. The kitchen goes well beyond the pastry case, with bowls, avocado toast, scones and breakfast tacos.

Address: 338 W Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Order or try: The breakfast burrito or avocado toast alongside a house-roasted latte

3. Numinous Coffee Roasters, Marble Falls

Hill Country

4.8 ★ on Google  ·  664 reviews

In-house bakery and roaster in a converted house.

Alex and Kathy Payson opened Numinous in 2015 in a single-story house set among trees on RM 1431, and it has been the Highland Lakes go-to for serious coffee ever since. The roaster is in the room with you, close enough to sit beside.

The bakery side holds its own: rosemary sourdough, English muffins, bagels, scones and cookies, all made in-house. Order a sandwich with your coffee and plan to stay a while.

Address: 715 RM 1431, Marble Falls, TX 78654
Order or try: A sandwich on the house rosemary sourdough

4. Sip! On The Square, Wimberley

Hill Country

4.6 ★ on Google  ·  314 reviews

Espresso bar on the town square.

Sip! has been serving coffee on Wimberley Square since 2010, and the menu has some personality. The house signature is the Shorty: a double shot of espresso in an 8-ounce cup with half-and-half and a packet of raw sugar. The cold brew is steeped for a full 24 hours.

The drip coffee comes in Colombian roast, French roast, or Texas Pecan flavored, which is about as Hill Country as a coffee menu gets. Grab a cup and walk the square.

Address: 101 Wimberley Square, Wimberley, TX 78676
Order or try: The Shorty: a double shot in an 8 oz cup with half-and-half and raw sugar

5. 309 Coffee, Georgetown

I-35 Corridor

4.8 ★ on Google  ·  968 reviews

Refurbished house with a wraparound porch, just off the square.

309 started with three couples from the same church and a house one of them owned. The owners had been renting the place out when one of them wondered aloud whether it would make a good coffee shop. Volunteers built the wraparound porch, and inside there are two rooms with different seating.

The owners have said plainly that they want people to stay: book clubs, study groups and business meetings are regular fixtures, and nobody clears your table to turn it. It is just off the downtown square.

Address: 309 S Main St, Georgetown, TX 78626
Order or try: Coffee on the wraparound porch, or wine or beer on draft later in the day
Website: 309.coffee

6. Mi Mundo Coffeehouse & Roastery, Round Rock

I-35 Corridor

4.7 ★ on Google  ·  904 reviews

Mission-driven roastery in Downtown Round Rock.

Mi Mundo describes its style as Puerto Rican roots with an Aussie twist, and the mission is unusually specific: organic, fair-trade beans from Central and South America, and 25 percent of profits going to local and global charities. The beans are roasted in Round Rock and sold by the bag in the shop and online.

Signs on the shop's window and website credit it with Best of Round Rock honors for Best Coffee: a winner from 2020 to 2022 and first place in 2024. The company has since added more locations, but Downtown Round Rock on South Mays Street is where it started.

Address: 106 S Mays St, Ste 100, Round Rock, TX 78664
Order or try: A specialty latte (honey nut, red hot chile pepper and peanut butter were on the opening menu) or a bag of the house roast

7. Chaparral Coffee, Lockhart

I-35 Corridor

4.7 ★ on Google  ·  404 reviews

Courthouse-square coffee, breakfast and beer.

Lockhart holds the Texas Legislature's official Barbecue Capital title, and Chaparral is where the morning starts. Austin and Taylor Burge opened it in 2016 on the courthouse square, in a narrow storefront that had been home to barbershops and boutiques.

The beans come from Austin roaster Barrett's Coffee. Breakfast runs to bagel sandwiches and brisket-and-egg tacos, and beer and wine are on the list too, so it works just as well late in the day.

Address: 106 E Market St, Lockhart, TX 78644
Order or try: A golden milk or matcha latte, or a brisket-and-egg taco

8. Kinnor Coffee, New Braunfels

I-35 Corridor

4.9 ★ on Google  ·  263 reviews

Coffee by day, cocktails by night, in a 1930s house.

Kinnor takes its name from the instrument David played in the story that also gave Five Stones Artisan Brewery its name. Aaron and Ashley Brown opened Kinnor in 2020 inside the brewery, then moved into a 1930s house on South Castell Avenue in January 2025.

It is coffee by day and cocktails by night, and the syrups are made in-house.

Address: 540 S Castell Ave, New Braunfels, TX 78130
Order or try: The maple latte, made with maple, vanilla bean, cinnamon, brown sugar, orange peel and cardamom
Website: kinnornb.com

9. Selah Café Coffee + Market, Boerne

Hill Country / San Antonio border

4.8 ★ on Google  ·  84 reviews

New York-style bagels and a corner market on the Hill Country Mile.

The newest shop on the list. Aubrey and Stephen Gimenez opened Selah on the Hill Country Mile in March 2026 as a New York-style coffee shop: bagels and sandwiches, weekly specials from local micro-bakers, and a small market with books and take-home goods.

The syrups are made in-house and the drink menu shifts with the seasons. If you are new to Boerne, this is an easy first stop on Main Street.

Address: 616 N Main St, Boerne, TX 78006
Order or try: The maple vanilla latte, made with real vanilla bean, and a New York-style bagel

10. Frenchie Coffee Roasters, Cibolo

San Antonio suburbs

4.8 ★ on Google  ·  93 reviews

Drive-thru and walk-up roaster in Old Town Cibolo.

Jessica and Filip Guzikowski started Frenchie in Washington state in 2015 and picked the business back up after moving to Cibolo. Their first storefront is in Old Town Cibolo, built around a drive-thru and a walk-up window.

The name is a nod to French bulldogs, and a portion of every purchase goes to animal rescues.

Address: 200 Pfeil Rd, Cibolo, TX 78108
Order or try: One of the signature espresso drinks, or something from the kids menu

How We Picked These Shops

Every shop here is independently owned and based in Central Texas. We picked one per community, favored places with their own roasting, baking or house-made syrups, and included a mix of long-running institutions and newcomers. This is an editorial list, not a ranking, and it is not paid placement. Tell us who we missed.
